“Eldest daughter syndrome” is an informal name for the gendered experiences of eldest daughters/eldest marginalized genders in families where parents and community did not meet the eldest daughter’s/child’s needs, and the eldest daughter/child was expected to be responsible for other family members at the same time. This experience is compounded for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color due to racial oppression, cultural expectations, migration/displacement/colonialism, translation expectations, and more.

If “eldest daughter syndrome” reflects your experience, join me for a compassionate workshop where we will identify and set aside the too-big responsibilities, explore play and artmaking, and treat our inner children with tenderness.

This workshop will focus on tending to our own needs and celebrating ourselves. We acknowledge colonial capitalism as the systemic root of families not meeting our needs. Your anger and grief are deeply welcome. We will not be telling trauma stories or blaming family members aloud in this workshop.

Accessibility: The workshop will be online and participants may have cameras on or off. We will be writing/drawing and doing gentle body movement. There will be a break in the middle of the workshop.
